From the Options menu select Preferences and then the Import fields tab.
Click on the Preferences button on the button bar or use the drop-down list to the right of the button and select Import fields.

These settings tell TreeDraw which data fields to put where as it imports a tree. You can also define which indicators (b., d., m., etc) to use.

All these settings will be stored in import profiles.

Each item in the "Imported data type" list represents a component of an imported tree:

Name	The name of the root person and spouses
Child's name	The name of any child
Person details	Date of birth, etc
Marriage details	Date and place of marriage, etc
Marriage indicator	Used when marriage details are not requested

As TreeDraw imports the tree, it formats it as follows. The example shows a left justified, vertical descendant tree but the text arrangement is the same for all tree layouts.

The actual contents of each of these components can be user defined in the "Format for this data type" box. Click on an item in the "Imported data type" list and then edit its contents.

The field format may consist of any static text (including line breaks) plus any combination of the fields from the imported database. Fields available for the selected "Imported data type" are shown in the "Fields available for this type" list. Only fields from the People table are available for "Name", "Child's name" and "Person details" types. Only fields from the Family table are available for "Marriage details" and "Marriage indicator" types.

You can add any of the fields to the text in the "Format for this data type" box, by selecting them from the "Fields available for this type" list and dragging them into the "Format for this data type" box. TreeDraw interprets anything between "<" and ">" as a database field name. Any other text in the Format box is imported into the tree exactly as it is. You can edit the text in the Format box directly if you want to add extra text or delete anything.

Current database

This is the name of the database which has the "Fields available for this type". It is either the current Kith and Kin Pro database (the one you used or imported last) or "GEDCOM" if the fields are from the TreeDraw temporary database. If you want to use fields from a different database (one which you are about to import, perhaps), click on the Browse button. If you want to use fields from the TreeDraw temporary database, click on the GEDCOM button in the Select database dialog.

Default

Click here to restore the default Format setting for the current Data Type.

Ignore lines with no data

If you want TreeDraw to miss out completely any lines from any of the Formats which end up having no data in them, set this option. For example, the first line of the "Person details" Format might be "b. <Birth date> <Birth place>". If a person is imported who has no birth date and no birth place, then the line will be ignored. If you want TreeDraw to import a line with just "b." for this person, turn "Ignore lines with no data" off.
